Environmental and social impact

Kids Non-Profit Organization is using bioplastic from Corbion Purac who produces Lactides from Lactic Acid, which our partners WinGram Industry CO., LTD convert to Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) thermoplastic resin. PLA is a compostable bioplastic suitable for KNPO’s reflective beads.

Kids Non-Profit Organization reflective beads are:

  • 100% bio-based. Not petroleum based as regular plastics are. So, PLA has a carbon foot print around 3-4 times lower than traditional plastics.
  • fully bio-degradable under composting conditions (~60 degree C or higher with moisture). It degrades slower under non-composting nature environment but still much faster than regular plastics which takes perhaps 200 years to degrade.
  • non-toxic and even safe for food-contact.
  • non-GMO and even not from food crops. Our partners use bitter cassava starch and can sugar, instead of GMO corns.
